The growing prominence of women in the Indian real estate industry is inspiring and pivotal for its future, says Amrita Gupta.
Even as the real estate sector has got a boost after the pandemic, women’s role is also increasing in the industry. The creation of networking platforms, such as the CREDAI women’s wing, has empowered women by facilitating connections, sharing experiences, and providing resources. In an interview with news18.com, Amrita Gupta, director of Manglam Group and founder president of CREDAI Rajasthan Women’s Wing, said women’s involvement will create a more balanced and holistic real estate ecosystem, ultimately improving project outcomes and consumer experiences. Women have increasingly become prominent figures in the real estate industry. How do you envision their continued impact on shaping the future of this sector?
The growing prominence of women in the Indian real estate industry is inspiring and pivotal for its future. Women bring diverse perspectives and innovative ideas that can transform traditional practices into more inclusive and sustainable approaches. As we continue to advocate for gender inclusivity, I envision more women taking on leadership roles across levels, driving initiatives that prioritize well-being, sustainability, and social equity. Their involvement will create a more balanced and holistic real estate ecosystem, ultimately improving project outcomes and consumer experiences.
How can we foster a more inclusive and equitable environment in the real estate industry to empower women and maximise their potential?
Fostering an inclusive environment requires a multi-faceted approach. Firstly, mentorship programmes are essential to support women entering the industry and guiding them through their careers. Secondly, organisations must prioritise diversity in hiring and promotions to ensure women are represented at all levels. In addition, creating networking platforms, such as the CREDAI women’s wing, can empower women by facilitating connections, sharing experiences, and providing resources. Finally, industry-wide initiatives focusing on education and awareness around gender bias can help shift cultural norms and promote equality in the workplace.
Being the founder and president of CREDAI Rajasthan women’s wing, what has been your experience leading and advocating for women in the real estate sector?
Leading the CREDAI Rajasthan women’s wing has been immensely rewarding, particularly given the challenges we faced as women in the real estate sector. Since our launch in 2019, we faced several challenges where many women were hesitant to enter the field due to a lack of awareness and the traditionally male-dominated environment, which built feelings of intimidation and self-doubt. Many lacked confidence, feeling unprepared because of insufficient exposure to industry practices and networking opportunities.
To address these issues, we have built a supportive community that empowers women to seize opportunities. We currently have over 300 members in Rajasthan and 650+ across other states. We provide platforms for women to voice their concerns and aspirations, along with mentorship and training. We also advocate for firms to implement women-centric policies, helping create a more inclusive and accessible industry for future generations of women in real estate.
Could you elaborate on your commitment to sustainable and green building practices? What specific initiatives have you implemented to reduce the environmental impact of your projects?
Sustainability is at the core of my design philosophy and professional commitment. My Master’s in Sustainable Design Projects has equipped me with the tools to implement eco-friendly practices effectively. We focus on using sustainable materials, reducing waste during construction, and minimizing carbon emissions in our projects. These efforts enhance our buildings’ aesthetics and ensure they contribute positively to the environment and community.
What qualities do you believe are essential for successful leadership in the real estate industry?
Successful leadership in real estate hinges on several essential qualities: vision, resilience, and empathy. A strong leader must possess a clear vision that inspires and guides their team in a continuously evolving industry. Resilience is crucial for navigating challenges, adapting to market changes, and pushing forward with innovative solutions. Empathy enables leaders to connect with their teams, understand their needs, and foster a collaborative environment. Effective communication and a commitment to mentorship are also vital for nurturing talent and empowering the next generation of leaders in our industry.
