Zoe Saldaña gets candid about awarding bodies overlooking actors in CGI movies

Zoe Saldaña has recently slammed awarding bodies for overlooking actors’ performances in CGI movies.

In a new interview with Independent, Zoe, who worked in sci-fi movies over the years, reflected on the issues actors face when they used CGI effects in the awards season.

“Old habits die hard, and when you have old establishments, it’s really hard to bring forward change,” said the 46-year-old.

The Guardians of the Galaxy actress continued, “And I understand that, so I’m not bitter about it, but it is quite deflating when you give 120 percent of yourself into something.”

“I mean, not winning is OK, not being nominated is OK, but when you’re overlooked and then minimised and completely disregarded,” added Zoe.

Elsewhere in the interview, Zoe recalled people arguing that her performance in Avatar was because of technicians alone.

“I know the difference between that and what we did,” she remarked.

The Amsterdam actress mentioned that she did understand the resistance.

However, Zoe pointed out, “At some point you have to ask yourself: why is it that I do what I do? Is it so others can give me approval? Or is it because I don’t want to do anything else?”

Meanwhile, Zoe, who finally earned Golden Globe nomination for Emilia Perez, shared, “I can’t tell you what this moment means to me.”

“It’s the culmination of 25 years of hard work and putting one foot in front of the other to have people finally go, ‘Oh, you’ve been here this whole time,’” said the actress.
